Abbey battle to a dissapointing final score

Horsley recently joined the SPL from the Epsom and Ewell league and have been laying waste to teams in our division all season whit some big scores. Abbey went to Horsley full of confidence after some very good results but knowing it was going to be a tough game, probably the toughest of the season so far.

The first half was a spectacular show of football, Abbey had an opportunity early on to open the scoring with Joseph pushing one just wide of the post. 10 Minutes later Salvi had another opportunity to open the scoring for Abbey which was just wide. Abbey were in the game the entire first half with opportunities to score, but a fantastic strike from Horsley saw them 1-0 up at half time.

Not a disappointing score line for half time as Abbey had the advantage going into the second half playing downhill and with what we felt was the advantage. A good solid performance will see us take the game to Horlsey.

Unfortunately, Abbey could not maintain the pace and pressure and allowed Horsley into the game where they quickly added a second goal in the second half.

Horsley maintained pressure and with Abbey struggling to clear the ball out of our half, the pressure kept coming which resulted in a further 2 goals, great strikes from the Horlsey boys.

A final score of 5 -0 was flattering to Horsley but it has to be said, they are a good outfit who play really good football and on the day, had the legs to carry it to the end.

Abbey kept battling to the end and this makes the return fixture in the league nicely poised for Abbey.
