Abbey draw to an in form Staines Town

Abbey U12 went to Staines Town for a meet that could see Abbey move into 3rd spot in the table. A cold wintery morning with strong winds would prove challenging to both teams respectively.

The pitch was immacualate, and the host team were incredibly welcoming which was great for the team.

As the game kicked off, Abbey quickly got the measure of the game and controlled the play for most of the first half. The first goal was comfortably slotted in by Joeseph after a fantastic period of play and good linking between Salvi and Joeseph.

After an attacking move by Staines about 10 minutes later saw Aidan, our goalkeeper, gather the ball up and kick it out straight into the path of an advancing Salvi who put the ball in the back of the net for a second goal. The team held their 2 goal advantage until about 2 minutes before half time when the only mistake of the match allowed Staines Town to get 1 back.

Going into the second half, a third goal from Abbey was essential to settle the game down, but now playing into the wind was going to prove to be challenging. Abbey did well and held the game but Staines Town started getting on top of it and added a second goal half way through the first half.

As the clock ticked down, Abbey attacked, wave after wave, but a solid defense from Staines Town ensured Abbey could not get the winning goal they were looking for and needing.

A solid defensive performance from Callum and Charlie, who was awarded man of the match, kept Staines Town in check but overall a great game of football played by both teams, and although dissapointing for Abbey not to come home with 3 points, a result that accurately reflects the skill and development of both teams.

All in all a great day and Abbey are looking forward to the return fixture hosting Staines Town in the second half of the season.
