Abbey Ladies Into 2nd Round

After 120 minutes of football each and every one of you looked absolutely shattered and you left nothing off of the pitch.

The first half was very even, hard fought tackles, chances for both sides on a very hot Sunday afternoon. Finally we got a free kick just outside their box and straight off of Johnny G's training board Lesley strolled up to take it, driven in, goalkeeper saves and spills and again as we talked about prior in the changing room Isobel followed in and slotted home a deserved goal.

Half Time Abbey 1 - Saltdean 0

The second half Saltdean up'd their game and we started to look a little tired, but with sheer determination and team work we held in there, still some chances for us to finish the game.

With just a couple of minutes to go Saltdean broke through with Alice in goal challenging for the loose ball she was deemed to have bought down their attacker, Penalty awarded.

Penalty was taken and I could not believe how close Alice got to saving it but it flew in, final whistle Blew minutes later.

Extra Time 15 minutes each way

We all got together had a very constructive chat even though most players had nearly given their all, we emphasised that they [Saltdean] must be as tired as us and we can still win this.

Team morel was fantastic and showed how each and every one of you wanted and deserved this win.

1st half of extra time started and Abbey looked by far the fitter side now with renewed energy which came from where I do not know, it was not long before we had a break through and Laura composed herself and slotted the ball home. Whistle blew 2-1 to Abbey

2nd Half was quite even but our Abbey defence and keeper where now not going to be beaten with lots of strong challenges and clearances finally that whistle came. [Fantastic all round defensive performance]

One of the biggest cheers I have heard at Abbey for a long time we are in the 2nd round of the SSE Women's FA Cup on the 23rd September Away to Godalming Ladies.

All 3 of us are so proud of our Ladies squad, today was your day.
