REPORT;
With this the opening game of the season for Abbey and playing at home, all was looking positive after some good preseason work in training for the boys. With the game getting under way and what seemed to be a fairly even match early on was soon changed when Uken scored the season opener for the side with twelve minutes gone in the first half. With Abbey applying some good constant pressure onto Claygate early on they seemed to loose pace allowing the visitors to push forward.
Having carried the lead into the second half Abbey needed to bring their selves back into the game. An inspired visiting team pressured and pressured and were rewarded with two closely scored goals giving them the lead. Abbey seemed unable to fight back and the match ended with a loss.
With Abbey now having a couple new members in the team, Max and Uken, hopefully they will have a strong season in the under nine league. Good luck for the rest of the approaching season.
Final score – Abbey 1-2 Claygate

With this match destined to prove a real ‘test’ to Abbey with Beaulie’s early season success. The visitors, Abbey Rangers were going to have their work cut out to prevail victorious. Beaulies Rebels, new to the first division this year made it clear right from the first whistle that they had earnt their place. A somewhat ‘struggling’ Abbey side fought to stop their advances but this proved to be a difficult task. Beaulieu finding their way through Abbey’s players causing them some real defending ‘nightmares’.
With the second half under way Abbey’s coach and team manager, Gavin Fuidge, tried to rally some fight from his side. But with their heads already dipped, Abbeys boys were finding it tough going. Although some flurries of skill came from them they couldn’t find the answer to break through Beaulieu’s well organised side.

Abbey Rangers were in need of a home ground advantage this week, and the points of a victory would prove to be a valuable ‘boost’ for the team. With a fast and closely contested opening to the game, it was Abbey who opened the score line with a super pass from Uken allowing Charlie to fire the ball into the net with barely five minutes gone! The home side looked much, much better and more comfortable, this showed in the way they pushed forward with some good, well thought passes. With fifteen minutes gone an unfortunate Frimley side suffered an own goal. However they fought back fro this scoring and bringing the match to 2-1 close to half time.
The second half started and followed on as the first half. Uken, with a superb pass to Will followed up with Abbey’s third goal of the match. With Abbey causing Frimley some real nightmares the visitors were forced to play most of the second half in their own half of the pitch. The unfortunate visitors again conceded an own goal this stretching the lead for Abbey to 4-1. With the match entering its closing stages, a wonderful cross from Sam lead to a header from Will which was, unfortunately, just wide of the goal mouth. A very, very positive performance from Abbey Rangers FC, and a well deserved win.

REPORT:
Abbey Rangers entered this the fourth match of the season for them in real need of a strong performance and three points. However some ‘precise’ goal scoring from the home side, Stains Town put, as with the weather, a dampener on this.
Having taken command very early on in the opening half with a super goal from Charlie, the visiting side appeared to lose ‘focus’ on the job in hand. However, Abbey gave Stains Town a really good game and it was a fairly evenly matched first half. Possible being behind so early on spurred the home team on and a quick three goal score run followed giving them a good commanding lead. With Abbey trying to dig deep, Will Cooke fired the ball into the net bringing Abbey back into the game with the score to 3-2. With the home team pressing on they scored again and ended the first half 4-2 up.
Once again within minutes of the second half commencing, Charlie scored his second of the game giving Abbey a fighting chance. With summer time now being ‘officially over’ the rain came down making the game even harder for the boys to make an impact on Stains as they were now into their stride. Abbey suffered in the next ten minutes allowing themselves to be ‘dictated’ by Stains who scored a further three goals and seemingly sealing the match. A late corner from Abbey could not be fully utilised and the fight seemed to have all but gone from them. The home team carried on pressing forward and fired in a final goal ending the match clear winners.

REPORT;
With Abbey Rangers FC’s season opening form this match was vital in the points stakes. An improved Walton side looked strong and positive right from the off, some excellent passing and team play gave them the advantage early on. Abbey’s fight proved to be vital in trying to ‘hold back’ a much more ‘jelled’ Walton Casuals team. The first half was a close fought fight but it was not to be Abbey’s. Walton carried the lead into half time with two super goals giving them a 2-1 score line.
The second half looked to be a real hard fought struggle for a seemingly ‘tiring’ Abbey side. With the home team keeping up the pressure goals could only follow, Walton scoring in close succession giving them a 4-1 lead. With their tackling prowess Walton pushed on and being fair and honest, left Abbey without any answers to them. An awesome strike from Uken, Abbeys power master, with just thirty seconds left almost brought them right back in but it struck the post and deflected away from goal.

This was the first meeting of the season between Abbey Rangers who are trailing at the tail end of the division and Guildford Saints who have started the season in fine winning form to head the division. With previous match performance and stats, this looked to be a tall order for the visitors who have had better starts to their season campaign.
The match got under way and Guildford were straight into their stride, fast paced play, precise passing giving them the early advantage. It was Guildford who opened the score line with a superb goal with barely five minutes gone! Abbey fought back quickly and Will Cooke levelled the score line a couple of minutes later, this seemed to spur on the side and some real inspired play was soon to follow. A hand ball from Guildford inside the goal area saw a penalty for Abbey. Charlie Fuidge took this and powered it into the back of the net, 2-1. Abbey took the lead into half time, their performance in the later stages of this half was gritty and determined.
With the second half under way it was clear to see the ‘desire’ coming from Abbey’s boy’s, a team who were talking, passing and pushing forward without intimidation, excellent! With barely two minutes gone a superb cross form Thomas Wensley allowed an alert Will to score his second of the match. Some close play followed with Guildford showing why they are leading the table, their co-ordinated play gave them the break they were pushing for and closed the score line to 3-2. Abbey Rangers were playing an excellent game and the determination was clear to see, they wanted this one! With the match drawing to a close Guildford levelled the score, ending the game 3-3. It was hard to see why Abbey are at the tables tail end with a performance like this today, well done to all the boys, bring on the next game!

Winter really was on the way, and the wind felt chilling! Not good or enjoyable for all players on pitch today. It was a point hungry Abbey side who badly needed a win on home soil in this match. However, the pattern of this game was set by the visitors right from the off! With the game getting off to a fairly even fast paced start, neither team seemed to want to relinquish possession. But with Feltham’s fast breaking strikers, a goal was powered into Abbey’s net with only minutes gone. The remainder of the first half continued to be a battle of skill and passing capabilities between the two teams, neither conceding any goals taking the score into half time, Feltham 1 – 0 Abbey.
Abbey Rangers regular goal keeper Harry Chambers was sidelined today with an injury, so Jordan Glover stood in his place. Thankfully Jordan’s goal keeping skills were in prime form and fully needed today, he made some superb saves from some very determined Feltham strikers. But with their game having the edge on Abbey’s today their appeared to be no holding them back. Abbey’s defenders Alex and Uken were made to work hard but could not halt the ever pressuring visitors. With 12 minutes gone they scored again, only to follow this up with three more goals within the next ten minutes, with a 5-0 score line in front of them Abbey’s brave boys could do nothing to save this game. Another close, hard fought game from the boys, again difficult to see how or why the are at the tables lower end! Well done to all, keep looking forward!

‘What are we going to do?’, ’ WIN ’ Shouted the boys ! With the team given an incorrigible boost by the teams manager Gavin and coach Glen, today was a day three points were really needed. Abbey’s boys hadn’t won a match in the last four games and were keen to end this barren run! Both teams felt the bitter cold wind today and this showed with a slow, but cautious start to the game. Play was fairly even and not much really separated them from each other, neither team appearing to have the ‘edge’ on their opponents this early on. With the first half minutes ticking by, play continued without any real threat for either Abbey or Fleets goal keepers to deal with. The half time whistle blew, the score line was an uninspiring 0-0, both teams needed to pick up their game for the second half!
With the second half under way it was becoming clear that Abbey’s boys were starting to open up the visitors and find ways through their defence and began to threaten Fleets goal. With some well thought out and precise passing, the ball was put through to Thomas, he struck it with all his might and even though it took a slight deflection off of a Fleet player it flew into the net ! Goal ! This seemed to make Fleet alter their tactics and they appeared to play a very defensive game from this point on. With the game in it’s final few minutes Fleet pushed forward but Abbeys defence did a great job of keeping them at bay. They held off Abbey until the final whistle, but came under some real pressure before it blew! Three points !

This was to be the first meeting this season between these two ever competitive teams, and by previous matches not one to be won easily!
With the day starting out to be windy, wet and, well just horrible, conditions were made tough for the boys today on Guildford’s home ground. The match whistle blew and play was hard, the ball dragged which made passing and dribbling difficult, let alone to get accuracy in the passing. Again the two teams fought well and neither had the better of their opponents, Abbeys defence again stood strong along with some very clever and effective midfield work gave them a visible ‘upper’ hand in the first half. Guildford made several brakes through and came close to scoring a couple of times.
With the weather conditions not improving the pitch became even harder to play, both teams keepers struggled to get a hold on the ball when needed with the advances of their opponents strikers. A slight change in tack ticks saw Jordan moved into Abbeys front line, this paid off as he scored their only goal of the match putting them in front. Guildford fought back quickly and hard and were rewarded with an equaliser with minutes to go. Sadly, for Abbey it ended in a draw, but some real grit and guts shown today from all, Uken, Sam, Alex, Charlie, Will, Jordan, Max, Harry, Thomas, well done !

With the pitch at Claygate being somewhat frozen a slight delay to kick off was needed today. After some much welcomed sunshine on this cold winters day the match got off to a good, fairly fast paced start from both teams. It was clear to see Abbey had the slight edge over Claygate early on with Alex and Uken defending well keeping any advances from the home side at bay. Abbeys focus, play and ‘desire’ was much more evident in this game as the whole team were clearly focused on getting the three points they needed. With the game evening out it was nail biting who would make the break and score first, with both teams beginning to threaten their opponent’s goal with regular breaks and strikes! With eighteen minutes gone Claygate scored first with some impressive passing which set up a cracking powered strike. This gave Abbey an extra ‘kick start’ and within a few minutes Thomas scored their first taking them 1-1 into half time.
The second half saw play ‘even out’ and slacken of from both sides, maybe the cold was getting the better of the players? But with Claygate pressuring Abbey they could not afford to be complacent, they needed to up the pace and apply some of their own pressure. The game seemed to take a drastic uplift in pace and with Abbey passing and communicating a super goal from Jordan soon followed. Abbey’s goal keeper, Harry, kept some really determined shots out of the net to keep the score line at 2-1 to give Abbey the three points. Well done to all going into the Christmas break. See you all in ’08 !

With a new year arriving and the mid- season turning point met, Abbey Rangers FC were looking for a positive start to 2008. This was the second meeting of these two teams this season, Beaulieu having the upper hand in the previous game. The match got of to a fairly even but fast paced start, the ball changed ends with a pace that would be more at home in a tennis court. Beaulieu forcing the issue of the game to Abbey who were, fair to say not as ‘strong’ as the visiting side at coming forward. With the visitors pressuring and threatening Abbey’s defence with increasing regularity some good strong on target shots came. Abbey’s goal keeper Harry made a couple of excellent saves to keep the score line at 0-0 at half time.
The second half got under way and Abbey appearing to be what could be described as ‘confused’ in their approach. With the boys communication letting them down it allowed a steady paced, positive Beaulieu side to score with barely five minutes gone. Abbeys game turned defensive as they continued to be pressured and although some real heart and guts came from the boys the conceded another some ten minutes later. With this appearing to spur Abbey’s boys on they sprung into and attack and Thomas scored with a cracking shot taking a deflection of the goals beam. Another hard fought game with little reward, still difficult to see why Abbey’s table position is not reflecting the effort and closeness of their games. Well done to all.

This game had ‘tough’ written all over it for Abbey Rangers, with Staines Town at the tables sharper end and Abbey trying hard, really hard to win every game they play, sadly having little to show for the efforts put in by all so far this season. The game could not have started on a tougher note for Abbey with Staines scoring their first of two early goals within eight minutes of the first whistle blowing. The home side were too slow to react to the visitors quick breaking early on. Midway through the first half Abbey began to show guts and evened the game out and began to push and put pressure onto their opponents. Some ‘strong’ tackles came from Staines and Abbey’s boys did well to hold the score line at 2-0 with the half time whistle blown.
With some positive and encouraging support from Gavin and Glen the team’s coaches, Abbey got off to a much better start in the second half. They pushed forward with more belief and determination, this made the visitors work really hard in their approach. Staines scored two goals within close succession of each other and this left a very tall order for the boys to over come. However, a cross from Charlie was deflected off of the Staines keeper and went into their net, YES one back! With the referee’s whistle poised full time blew, yet another hard fought game with no reward. Keep pushing boys !!!

A cold, windy, but clear Sunday for this match between Abbey Rangers and the usually tough Walton Casuals. With Abbey making a quick and positive start to the game Walton looked to be on the back foot some what early on. Some super play in the midfield between Jordan, Thomas and Sam saw the ball fed through to Charlie for an attack on goal. With a good, well thought cross from Charlie it was Sam who blasted the ball into the net! The first half game pattern took an unpleasant turn with some ‘strong’ challenges made by the visiting side. The referee, Steve, having to blow his whistle on several occasions to bring the game back in order. Play evened out and the game continued with Abbey loosing the ball too regularly in challenges. Walton earned a free kick with only four minutes left in the first half and scored evening things up going into half time.
Abbey’s boy’s game play was much more positive early on in the second half and they brought them selves back into the game. However they were still conceding too many challenges to Walton and this gave them a hard time defensively. With a much stronger ‘push’ to their attacks Walton scored another mid-way through the half and continued to pressure. Although Abbey Rangers boy’s continued to show their guts and determination in this tough, tough division they were unable to hold a strong Walton side at bay. The man of the match today was Yuken, his consistent and relentless work rate shining through. Good effort by all again.

Abbey Rangers were playing away at Feltham today, a cold but a very welcome sunny day for the game. With the team in their new ’08 kit, and looking very impressive, the boys appeared in confident mood. The match got under way with Abbey making a good positive start, they appeared more ‘organised’ and were communicating with each other far more than in recent games, maybe some small position changes made by Glen today aided this? A strong Feltham side (as usual) not letting Abbey play the game their own way nor at their own pace. Early on in the first half was all Abbey Rangers, much, much faster on the break than Feltham who tried their best to kept the game play even. But with the home side playing a few very clever passes it allowed them to break clear and attack Abbey’s goal, with the keeper H at full stretch he was unable to stop a good shot. Half time, 1-0 Feltham!
With the second half under way, Abbey’s man marking was letting them down and Feltham made the most of this, they pushed forward with more pace and were getting through! Feltham were awarded a penalty due to a handball in Abbey’s area, their player ran, shot and Abbey’s keeper Harri denied them with a first class save! But with Abbey not holding their possession strong enough the home side continued to press on. They scored again mid way through the half and carried on forcing the issue to Abbey. Unfortunately for the visitors the game ended with a defeat, but some positive points from today with the improved general pace of play and hunger from Abbey’s boys! Heads and chins up! Well done.

A crucial game today for Abbey Rangers FC, with Fleet Reds only one place higher in the league table than themselves, a victory would ensure them an elevation in the table standings. As the game got underway it was clear to see Abbey’s pressure and speed on the break was greater and quicker than Fleet’s. With the home team having to respond with pace and sharpness to halt an again improved Abbey team. A hand ball came from Fleet giving the visitors a free kick, with the ball being cleared from Abbeys area Fleet were quick to respond and made a sharp attack! A cracking shot, straight at Harri, what a save! With some quick reflexes a superb save was made and a disappointed Fleet needed to regroup. The home side began to pressure more as the first half wore on and they made some good bursts down the wings to give Abbeys defence of Sam and Yuken something to think about. Thomas suffered an injury to his left ankle and was substituted close to half time by Max.
Heading into the second half the game was still fairly even but set off at a slower pace than the first, neither team really having the upper hand with ball possession, pace or break speed. But with Fleet continuing to apply a steady, constant pressure they scored with barely 10 minutes gone from a sharp and clean break down the wing. With the home side’s confidence increasing Harri was tested several times and had to work hard to halt their strikes hitting the back of the net. A second goal followed from Fleet some 5 minutes later and this surely sealed the win for them. Abbey’s heart and determination showed more in this match than in several of the past few games and the whole team should still walk with their chins up and chests out!
Well done to all again.

An unwelcoming cold April morning awaited this match between Abbey and old rivals Guildford Tigers. With the first half getting into an all too common close fought game between these evenly matched teams, it was Guildford who opened the score line with a goal just some 8 minutes in. With the early pace of the game it looked as if it was going to be long and punishing for both teams. But with 15 minutes gone in the first half the pace suddenly seemed to lift and both teams really got their act together. With some heavy, icy cold rain showers falling both teams got their heads down and battled on. The half time whistle was approaching fast and a shot from Charlie took a deflection from a Guildford player and shot into their net, 1-1 half time.
With the second half under way for no more than 30 seconds, Guildford scored from a super quick break. However with Abbey to take the centre kick some sharp passing saw a long range shot from Charlie pass under the Guildford keeper’s legs and into their net! 2-2. The pattern of the game set into another closely fought contest between these two teams, neither seemingly willing to give in, Guildford’s pressure was rewarded with their third goal mid way through the half 3-2. Abbey’s players continued to push on but were sadly unable to make a strong enough impression on Guildford to get the equaliser. Final score Abbey Rangers FC 2-3 Guildford Tigers.

A victory today would have boosted Abbey’s chances of a last minute surge and a life line from almost certain relegation next season. With Frimley only lying a few points away from Abbey in the league table and going on the seasons earlier match a close game was expected by all. With the game under way to a slow, but steady start from both teams, it was hard to see who really possessed the desire to fight for the win today! But the home side were quicker to break than Abbey’s boys and took them by surprise on several occasions in the early running. Abbey’s goal keeper Harri, was tested several times and kept his nerve well making some good saves keeping the score line 0-0. But sadly with some good precise, quick passing Frimley broke through Abbeys defence to score. With Abbey’s manger Gavin and coach Glen making several well judged substitutions throughout the half, one could only hope of throwing Frimley into disarray, but they continued to press forward.
With the second half continuing the pattern of the first, good steady passing from Frimley, guts and fight from Abbey, the game seemed to up it’s self in pace. Abbey’s Yuken made a cracking shot at goal only to have it deflected over the bar by the Frimley keeper! Urgh! Sadly Abbey could not find the back of the net today and were the losers in this close, close game. Again with performances like this it is hard to see why and where Abbey’s table position has come from. One more game to play this season boys, lets close it with a win (rumor has it Gavin is planning to show us his post match dancing celebration skills if the team wins!)Report submitted by: Jason Glover

The season’s final game!
With this game promising to be no easier than any previous matches with Guildford Saints for Abbey, a win in the final game of a tough season for Abbey Rangers would not have been unwelcome. The match got off to a sharp, fast start from both teams and it look set to be an interesting match. With hardly four minutes gone Guildford scored, the pace of the match was fast paced but fought fairly by both teams. The first half continued but Abbey were struggling to match Guildford’s passing speed and quickness to break. With the pressure relentless from Guildford they scored a second some twenty minutes in. Heavy rain made the going tough for all just before half time, but the boys did extremely well to keep there heads down and focused on the game.
The second half got under way, this saw an early substitution of Abbey’s ever sure goalkeeper Harri, this put Charlie in goal. It was difficult to tell who really had the upper hand in this half, both sides fighting well and even. Abbey’s boys seemed to up their pace mid way through but sadly this was not enough to bring them back into the match and even the score line.
A good game ending in a Guildford win 2-0.
With the season’s matches all played and the team looking set for some changes next year in the under 10’s. I would like to say well done and thank you to all, the players, manager, coach, referee and all parents who have any involvement with the team throughout the year.
