    Abbey Rangers 12 - 0 Woking Courgars
On Sunday 9th Sept. we played Woking Courgars at home and won 12-0. We have scored over half the goals that we scored in 22 games last season. Two of our new players scored hat-tricks.The girls played really well and are now starting to play as a team, by passing and finding space and running off the ball for each other. It is a huge improvement already on last season.
Scores Hayley Miles 3, Niamh Mullan 3, Dani Sen 2, Megan Grieshaber 1, Megan Tedeschi 1, Emily Adamson 1, and Cherie Grogan 1 pen.

South Park Girls 0 - 5 Abbey Rangers
On Sunday 16th Sept. we travelled to South Park Girls. As we have a large squad the 4 girls who did not play in the first game all played this time. We won 5-0 and they had to fight a bit harder than the week before. All played very well including our other two new recruits. Hayley scored another hat-trick and is going to be a real handful for any team we come up against.
Scores Hayley Miles 3, Charlotte Stoate 1, Riannah Downham Haynes 1.
We also have said goodbye to Claire Jacobson as she has now transfered to Ascot.

Abbey Rangers 2- Bedfont Sports 3
The match was a very even contest with both sides canceling each other out. Bedfont took the lead, then Niamh equalized and just before half time Bedfont retook the lead. In the second half Abbey Rangers had more of the ball but with numerous attacks were only able to score one goal, again from Niamh.
With Bedfonts last attack of the game Abbey Rangers conceded a corner. From a short taken corner the player was not closed down and somehow the long range shot found the net. Abbey Rangers tried to score in the last two minutes but Bedfont held out for the win. All the girls played really well again against a strong side and are improving with every game.

    Knaphill Wanders 1-Abbey Rangers 4
Back to winning ways after last weeks defeat. The girls had to be at there best against a good Knaphill side. The passing and movement was very good again and all the girls were taking shots on goal. The Knaphill goalkeeper made some very good saves. Hayley Miles scored the first again and Niamh Mullan scored a poke in from a corner. In the second half we played a lot of break away football, again taking lots of shots at goal. Our 3rd was scored directly from a corner by Hayley. Knaphill pulled a goal back but shortly after Charlotte Stoate put one in. After this as the girls tired on both sides the game then petered out.

    Kingstonian 0 - Abbey Rangers 11

Started the game with an experimental side to give some of the girls more experience. Our practice at corners paid off as Dani scored the first with a deflection. Riannah made it 2-0 and Hayley 3-0 at half time. For the second half we started with our more normal line up and with some good passing and crossing we managed to score 8 more goals, and Charlotte managed to also get a deflected corner in the goal.

Scorers were Charlotte 4, Dani 2, Hayley 2, Niamh 2 and Riannah 1.

Croydon Borough Girls 8 - 3 Abbey Rangers (League Cup)
Playing against a very strong side we were 3-0 down in a very short time. Dani then marked their best player for the rest of the game but they still had a couple of very skillful girls and we were chasing the game for large parts. Ella played very well in goal making some very good saves. We did have a few chances on goal and Charlotte and Niamh scored before half time to make it 5-2. We played a lot better in the second half and Dani managed to score a goal. Croydon worked their corners very well and were able to score 4 of their goals from them. If we are to get promoted this year, the girls found out to what standard we will have to perform as there are at least four teams of this standard in the premier league.

Abbey Rangers 6 Queens Park 0
On a wet and windy Sunday morning we started the game very evenly and started to take the upper hand after about 10 minutes.Georgia happened to be in the right place to tap in our first goal. We had a period of 5 minutes where we had about 10 corners on the trot but were unable to convert any of them. Charlotte who was playing fantastically put us 2-0 up before half time. In the second half we had all the play and had quite a few chances on goal and Dani managed to score three goals and Niamh got one. The defence played another sound game managing to soak up any pressure applied to them.
In our six league games so far we have managed to score 40 goals which doubles our amount from the whole of last season.
    Leading scorers are
    Hayley 10
    Niamh 10
    Dani 8
    Charlotte 8

Ascot Diamonds 1 Abbey Rangers 3
We came up against a very organised Ascot team who had a few chances in the first 5 minutes. Dani played well in goal and after a reshuffle we started to play a lot better. Charlotte scored towards the end of the first half after a good passing move. In the second half we played a lot better with Niamh scoring after the keeper could not hold onto the ball. Emily scored our third after a move where the girls passed it around between themselves on the top of the area until she got a strike in. Ascot pulled back a goal after a well worked move. Megan T and Cherie played excellantly in defence reading the play as it went along and making timely interceptions. Another good overall performance from all the girls.

Woking Cougars 3 Abbey Rangers 1
We played against a determined Woking side who were better organised than when we played them last time. They played aggressively but within the rules and our girls struggled to come to terms with this. We did not manage to string any moves together in the first half and went in 2-0 down at half time. We rearranged the side for the second half and played a lot better but still managed to concede a third. Emily did pull one back for us and the last quarter of the match we did have a few chances to score more but nothing came of it. Woking played a very good game and our girls did not match up to them. The coach has learnt a lot about the girls from this result and one of them is not to start a game without the strongest side available on the day and not to go into a game with the best two players and goalkeeper not there. Hopefully back to winning ways next week.

Abbey Rangers 4 South Park 2
A very cold and windy Sunday morning saw us playing South Park. We fielded a strong team after last weeks loss. We started off very well and could have been one up after a few minutes. South Park played very well and took the lead. After that the girls started to play the ball around a lot more and we had a succession of corners. Dani played extemely well on the right of midfield and managed to produce a hat trick after some clever passing moves. In the second half we changed the team around a bit and the game became a bit scrappy. South Park pulled one back so we strengthened the team again and then Niamh scored from a move down the left involving Charlotte and Eleanor. Ella had a couple of very good saves to keep us in the lead and we managed to close out the game. Next week is the top of the table clash against Bedfont so hopefully the girls go into it with their spirits raised.

Bedfont Sports 3 Abbey Rangers 0
A very windy Sunday morning saw us play the first half with the wind behind us. We had most of the play but failed to score largely thanks to a very good Bedfont goalkeeper. On one of the few Bedfont attacks they scored after our replacement keeper spilled the ball. The second half was a mirror image of the first half with Bedfont making all the play and scoring two early goals. We replaced our keeper with Dani and she did exceptionally in goal but it meant we lost all rhythm in our out field play. The girls heads did drop after this and we ended up loosing 3-0. Unfortunately the three league games we have lost this year have all been without our regular goalkeeper.

Abbey Rangers 2 Knaphill Wanderers 4
The game was played at Knaphill due to our grounds being water logged. Knaphill took a two goal lead early on. Abbey Rangers were not at our best and managed to concede a third. After half time we pulled two goals back only to concede again after the restart. We had lots of chances to score including hitting the crossbar twice and played some good football but could not break the opposition down. Charlotte scored both of our goals.
  • 16th December 2007

    Abbey Rangers 15 Kingstonian 0
We started off with a strong line up and after five minutes were 4-0 up with Niamh getting three. For the rest of the game we kept on rolling the girls on and off so everyone got to play about 40 minutes each. The direction off play was all one way and the Kingstonian goalkeeper made some very good saves. Niamh was almost the first to score with a header this season but after she met the ball perfectly the keeper pulled off a superb save. Eleanor managed to score her first goal for us and not content with that she scored a second. At half time we led 9-0. The second half was the same as the first and we scored another 6. The game ended with a 15-0 win for us. Niamh scored 6 goals, Hayley scored her third hat-trick and Charlotte,Dani and Eleanor got 2 each.

Leading scorers so far - Niamh 18, Charlotte 13, Dani 13, Hayley 13

Abbey Rangers 3 Walton Casuals 1 (Friendly)
Arranged at short notice we managed to get a full team for this friendly against Walton. It was a very even contest with both sides having plenty of chances. With some good passing and movement Abbey took the lead with a goal from Phoebe who played really well on the left of midfield and followed that up with a second. Walton pulled one back to make it 2-1 at half time. In the second half Walton applied more pressure and but for some great defending by the two Megans and Cherie and a couple of helps from the post they were not able to score. With some more good passing movement from Abbey we stretched our lead with another distance effort from Niamh. Our regular keeper was not playing so Hayley and Dani played a half each and both performed really well with some good shot stopping. This was one of the best games we have played this season so far and bodes well for the remainder of the season, starting with a County Cup game against Ascot.

Ascot 0 Abbey Rangers 0 a.e.t/ Abbey win pens 2-1(County Cup)
On a frosty morning Abbey Rangers had all of the play in both halves but the girls could just not get a shot on target. On another day they may well have scored 6 or more. It ended 0-0 at full time, so 5 mins each way were played. We still could not make the pressure pay and in the last 3 minutes of the game we were mostly defending with the girls stopping all the Ascot attacks. 0-0 after extra time so down to penalties. Charlotte scored with our first but we missed the next four. Ascot managed to score on their 3rd so after 5 each it was 1-1. Sudden death and Ella saved Ascots penalty to add to 3 other saves she had made. Megan T stepped up to take ours and the ball squeezed under their goalie so we won 2-1 on penalties. For Ascot it was a sad way to loose as the game had been played in the best of spirits. Ascot come to us for a league game next week so maybe they can get their revenge. For the girls, penalty practice next weekend.
  • 13th January 2008

    Abbey Rangers 1 Ascot 1
Much the same as the previous weeks game against Ascot. We had a lot of the play but could not score. The post and cross bar saved Ascot a few times, Niamh scored again to make twenty for the season so far, but managed to get a boot in the head for her troubles. Another game played in good spirit.
  • 20th January 2008

Abbey Rangers 1 Queens Park 2

A very even game with both sides playing some very good football. Queens park started the strongest and Abbey Rangers came into the game and took hold of the play towards the end of the first half. Our goalkeeper only had to make a couple of saves in the first half but our strikers and midfield had the same problem as the last few weeks, were they do all the hard work but can't get the ball at the target.   0-0 at half time. Playing into the wind in the second half it was much the same as the first with both sides canceling each other out. After about 15 mins of the second half we managed to score through Hayley. We had lots of corners in both halfs but could not make them count. From a Queens Park corner the ball went through 3 of our defenders and through the goalies hands into the net. After this our girls visibly started to tire because of the larger pitch we were playing on and their late nights, the night before,so Queens park were catching us on the break with only our defenders to stop them. From one of these breaks they had a long range punt which our goalie only managed to palm against the cross bar and it bounced back off the ground over the line.We threw everything forward for the last few minutes but could not get an equaliser. Even though it was an enjoyable game to watch, we ended up on the wrong end of the result, which we seem to be making a habit of.

Woking Courgars 1 Abbey Rangers 4

Our first win in 2008. The girls played a lot better today, with some very good passing and playing at a slower pace. We also defended better and did not get caught too far up the field. All the girls showed more aggression today. Ella had a very steady game in goal and made some good saves. Kerry, Cherie and Megan G were all very solid in defence with good timing on their interceptions and marked a lot tighter this week. They are also now starting to bring the ball out instead of kicking it away and taking on players before off loading it to the midfield. Dani, Charlotte,Emily,Eleanor and Niamh took turns at midfield and had to battle very hard against a spirited Woking side. Niamh and Riannah did a lot of running up front with not much luck. Charlotte scored our first goal followed by Dani in the first few minutes but after that we had to work very hard. Niamh scored a very good solo goal by picking the ball up on half way and running past three girls and bowling one over before she shot high into the goal. Woking got one back before half time to make it 3-1. The second half saw us have a few chances and Dani scored her second. Woking applied a lot of pressure and our girls defended really well against their corners and also a couple of good saves from Ella.

Leading scorers Niamh 21, Dani 15, Charlotte 14, Hayley 14

Abbey Rangers 2 AFC Wimbledon 0 (County Cup)
The quarter final of the County Cup saw us hosting AFC Wimbledon. In the first half it was a very even contest with both side striving to score, with both sides unable to convert any chances that they made. It was 0-0 at half time. Abbey Rangers made substitutions through out the game to try to upset the opposition by bringing on players in various positions, so that they could not settle. Charlotte played a lot deeper today in central midfield which allowed us to start playing from deeper. She covered the defenders really well, which gave them more time on the ball to either clear or set up a new attack. In the second half Wimbledon steated to tire, so Abbey started to get more of the play. We had a lot of chances in the second half, which culminated in Dani having a shot which rebounded of the post. A minute later we had a good passing move which ended with Dani stroking into the net. After this we had most of the play with our defenders Megan and Megan coping with anything that Wimbledon could throw at them. Our domination payed off when Charlotte went on a solo run and took it past four players and swept it past their goalkeeper.  Another good display from the girls.

Abbey Rangers 0 Knaphill Wanderers 2
Another game where we could not score a goal. The first 20 minutes of the game we were all over Knaphill, but could not even get a shot on target. In the final 10 minutes Knaphill started to come back into the game and from their first shot they scored. 1-0 at half time. The first 15 minutes of the second half Knaphill were the better side and with a very well taken goal went 2-0 up. Abbey Rangers came back into the game and started to find the target but the Knaphill goalkeeper saved everything we threw at her. We did manage to get one past her but this came back off the post. Knaphill deserved the win today, as our girls showed no real conviction and none of the passing that they are capable off. It was another one of our Jeckyl and Hyde displays.
  • 17th February 2008

Queens Park 1 Abbey Rangers 1
From the kick off we lost the ball for Queens Park to attack. Unfortunately Charlotte slipped up and Queens Park scored within the first minute. We picked up up play and started to move the ball around , which was very difficult on a pitch that had a big drop from one end to the other and was very undulating. The Queens Park goalie had another good game and the play was from end to end. Queens Park had about three cornerrs in the first half that we could not deal with as they went straight across the box and luckily for us they could not get a touch on them. Ella made a few good stops for us in goal and in the first half we did not really have any decent chances. The narrowness of the pitch did not allow us to play our normal game of taking the ball wide. 1-0 at half time for Queens Park. We started the second half in a more determined mood and from the kick off Charlotte stole the ball and cut in from the left taking it past three players and shot with her left, which beat the goalie, only for it to hit the post and go for a goal kick. We sustained our pressure through out the second half and from a play Dani got onto the ball and from the edge of the box slotted one in. We had a few chances in the second half but could not make them pay, as the Queens Park defenders were very solid in their tackling. We had to cope with a few breakaways and they only had one good chance which Ella saved with a dive to her right. Just before the final whistle we had an attack which some how Queens Park managed to clear off their line between two defenders and the goalie. A result of 1-1 was a fair reflection on the game as either side would have been disappointed to loose. Riannah had her best game for us today, playing about 45 minutes of the game as she is now coming to grips with team play and where she has to be on the pitch and was very commited to the cause. Kerry is also getting the idea of how to defend. She was a bit behind the play in the first half but after a talk with her Dad at half time, she was excellant at picking up any attackers running through, marking the players in her area and getting in some timely tackles. Charlotte was again the heart beat of the team and ran her self into the ground, always in the midst of the play. The two Megans also defended very well, coping with everything thrown at them, Niamh was again very strong and she and Dani swapped positions to good effect. The girls played a lot more aggressively, even if the referee thought they were a little bit too aggressive at times. Unfortunately this was not reciprocated in the opposite direction. Phoebe again improved today , she just has to become a little bit more selfish and take the ball on herself.
  • 24th February 2008

Bedfont Sports 3 Abbey Rangers 1
Another good team display, but still afflicted by the inability to score goals. We had a very good start to the game with some good passing and running but could not convert the pressure into goals. Ella had very little to do in goal for the first twenty minutes or so and with Bedfonts first real attack, the ball was kicked long for their forward to run onto and Ella, Cherie and Kerry all watched as the ball bounced between them only for the attacker to nip in and shoot the ball into the net. More communication needed there and also for somebody to take responsibility. We had another attack through Charlotte and unluckily for the defender the ball bounced up onto her arms. Charlotte took the penalty as nobody else wanted to. She struck a really powerful shot only to see it miss the post on the outside.Charlotte was back to her usual self, all over the pitch, getting in timely tackles and making good runs. From one of these, she picked up the ball in her own half, ran down the right wing past three defenders and shot just past the post. Dani also had one of her betters games as she was more committed to getting the ball.1-0 at half time. In the second half we were again making a lot of the play and eventually Niamh managed to work a metres space and ran on and shot past the keeper. For the next fifteen minutes we had the chances to score a few goals but again shot wide or the goalkeeper pulled off some good saves. Towards the end of the game we had another couple of misunderstandings in our defence and conceded two more goals, Today was endemic of how we have been playing since Christmas, lots of play, few goals and even fewer points. A big well done to Bedfont Sports who have clinched the Division 1 title.

Abbey Rangers 1 Knaphill Wanderers 0 (County Cup Semi Final)
A big thank you to Emily for playing in goal as Ella was unwell. We all had a long discussion before the match with the girls, myself and John to find out what the girls wanted from the rest of the season and what had been missing in the past few weeks. I think that they took it all in as this was one of our best displays this season. The girls were very vocal to each other and supported each other all of the time. The passing was more evident and running off the ball and coming back to help out in defence and into attack was a pleasure to see. They all worked together for the better of the team to such an extent that Knaphill were hardly in the game in the first half and that Emily in goal did not have to make a serious save in the whole game. In the first half we produced a few chances but could not make them count. 0-0 at half time. In the second half Knaphill came back into the game and our girls had to work a lot harder but they still did not threaten our goal. From one of our attacks Dani broke with the ball and a good hard shot found the net. We continued to have more chances with both Dani and Niamh shooting over from the edge of the box and from Charlottes run and dribble she hit the post. Overall the girls can be proud of themselves for a very good display. The final is at Chipstead FC on the 30th March against either Epsom Eagles or Croydon Borough Girls.
  • 9th March 2008

Abbey Rangers 3 Ascot Diamonds 0
The girls had another game where we had most of the play. The passing and movement was very good again. We created quite a few chances and Niamh scored the first goal. Charlotte made it 2-0 to half time. More of the same in the second half with Georgia making a solo run past a couple of players and scoring. Ella had to pulll off one good save in the second half. A better display today with our pressure paying off with three goals.
  • 16th March 2008

Abbey Rangers 1 Guildford Saints 5 (Friendly)
A very wet and windy morning with very difficult pitch conditions. We had to put sand into some of the larger puddles. We had 6 of our normal team not playing so all the other girls got a good game as well as three others who are not registered for the league. The new girls took a bit of time to get used to the speed of the game but after a quarter of an hour they appeared to come to grips with it. The ball did to get stuck in the mud and made it difficult to predict what would happen. Cherie played in goal for the first half and did extremely well. Georgia had two good chances but put them either side of the post. Guildford scored two goals in the first half and we replied from a shot from Phoebe. 2-1 at half time. The girls kept at it in the second half as the pitch deteriorated and we kept them rotating. Guildford scored three goals  in the second half and a big thank you to Ellie for playing in goal in the second half. All the girls aquitted themselves very well and all should be good for two sides for next season.
  • 30th March 2008

Epsom Eagles 2 Abbey Rangers 0 (County Cup Final)
We played the final at Chipstead FC's ground. The girls enjoyed being the centre of attention for the day. They all played above our expectations. Epsom were a very good side who were difficult to break down. We had only a few chances throughout the game but we did manage to limit them to only two goals which was less than we thought we would concede. The first half was very even and we managed to negate them for most of this. We conceded a goal just before half time when we failed to clear the ball. All the girls got to play as we rotated the team around. Epsom started to dominate in the later part of the second half as our girls started to tire and after a goal chance from us they broke away and scored their second. I would like to thank all the team for getting to the final and also all the spectators who came to support us. The girls can be very proud of themselves.
  • 13th April 2008

Abbey Rangers 1 Bedfont Sports 4 (Friendly)

Missing four of our regular players this was a difficult game for the girls. They all played very well but we had no control in the middle of the pitch. As a consequence all our play broke down. A big plus was the play of Ella H who showed some good skills. We only managed to concede one goal in the first half and did have a few chances but did not have anyone to finish them. In the second half we conceded another three easy goals and managed to score a free kick from Megan G right at the end.

  • 27th April 2008

South Park 3 Abbey Rangers 4

The team started off with some very nice passing. It became clear from the start that this was going to be a very physical game. Some very hard tackling was going in with both sides fighting very hard. Abbey had the upper hand and had a lot of chances with Hayley running at players all the time. Our first goal came from an unlikely source. Megan won the ball in defence and ran up the left flank taking it past three players before cutting in and scoring on her left foot. Charlotte made it 2-0 and we then conceded another easy goal. Hayley and Niamh both added one each to make it 4-1 at half time. In the second half we again had a lot of possession and applied a lot of pressure but to no avail. South Park still came at us and as we tired due to having only eight players we conceded two more easy goals. We held onto the end to win 4-3. Hayley was also sure she had scored direct from a corner as the ball appeared over the line but it was not given.

  • 4th May 2008

    Kingstonian 1 Abbey Rangers 8

The girls finished off the season with a fine win. The first half saw us have lots of play but we only went into half time 2-0 up. The girls were told to be patient as the goals would come so we promptly conceded a goal. After that the girls started to pass and play and we scored six more and could off had a lot more. The Kingstonian goalkeeper made some very good saves and we still have to practice on being more precise in front off goal. Scorers were Dani 4, Niamh 2, Eleanor 1, Hayley 1.
