History
Abbey Rangers football club was formed in 1976 initially to promote and provide football for young boys between the ages of 7 through to 16, naming itself after the historic Chertsey Abbey. The club has had several homes throughout Chertsey and Addlestone and played its football wherever a pitch was available.
Over the years Abbey Rangers has grown enormously and needed to plant it’s roots in one place, the club was fortunate in finding it’s new home and finally established itself in it’s current location at the Mead school playing fields, Addlestone Moor, Surrey. Our facilities comprise of 3 main soccer pitches, 3 minor league pitches and a flood lighted training area and to welcome visiting teams and new members we have a friendly clubhouse.
The club now has approximately 350 members comprising of 26 teams ranging from our new introductory level with the under five’s onto the youth teams up to under 18’s through to 3 adult men teams and our successful ladies contingent. Abbey Rangers take much pride in providing the community with a safe sporting environment for it’s young boys & girls. We have recently obtained the FA charter which sets out the standards to which we follow, all managers must be go through an induction which includes Police vetting and are encouraged to obtain their FA coaching badges.
Our future looks bright; we have just secured a 28-year extension to our lease that has given us the platform to move ahead with our development plans. We are looking to build a brand new clubhouse within the next 3 years, with improved changing and training facilities to ensure that our members and visitor needs are met, the improvements will also allow Abbey Rangers FC to play in the higher leagues which require set standards.
